Headteacher's Blog

Our superb PE department were runners-up in the Secondary School of the Year category at the Lancashire Sports Awards last week. They were highly commended for the quality of their work and all at the school are very proud of their achievement.

The results of this term’s Parent Survey are available to view here. We received 214 responses, with each key element graded out of 5. Children feeling safe has scored 4.1 and feeling happy has scored 4.0. Responses to behaviour (3.66) and bullying (3.64) have improved slightly since the last full survey and continue to be important areas in our efforts to improve the school experience for our students. Last year’s Ofsted Parent View secured more positive grading but was from a smaller sample of 72 parents. It has been included as a comparison. We really appreciate the time and trouble taken by all those who responded to the survey, especially from those who included some detailed and thoughtful commentary that we have reflected upon. Please remember that we also have the survey questions made available at every Parents’ Evening, giving another opportunity to parents/carers to share their views. This will be the case at the Year 11 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 7th December and the Year 8 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 14th December. Our next Parent Forum event will be on Tuesday 27th February 2018.

The next stage of the Rotary Club Junior Master Chef Competition was hosted in school this week. Congratulations to finalists Matthew Ennis and Grace Butcher who both demonstrated their extraordinary talent. Matthew was selected as the winner and he goes through to the District Final in February. We all wish him the very best of luck.

Some wonderful examples of ICE this week, include: using jelly babies to explore planes and axes in PE theory, Y13 economists undertaking live collaborative essay planning on the theme of rail privatisation, and business ownership advice videos. I too enjoyed being part of a video project this week, in conjunction with Liverpool Media Academy, based on the work of our SHINE team.

Dates and details of our forthcoming Winter Warmers Concert (Dec 13th) and Carol Service (Dec 19th) are listed on our website. Now that December is here the festive season is fast approaching and all are warmly invited to join us for these celebratory events.

As our thoughts begin to turn to the ‘season of goodwill’ and we see the challenges inherent in the world around us, I conclude the Blog this week with the wise words of Mahatma Gandhi: “The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.”

Best wishes

Mr Kerridge.
