Headteacher's Blog

Thank you to all of the Year 9 and Year 11 pupils and parents who have been in school this week as part of the Options interview process. I have thoroughly enjoyed discussing the aspirations that the pupils have and been impressed by their focus and commitment.

Our Twitter account has been sharing some of the amazing opportunities being experienced by those pupils who are away on the Spanish Exchange Programme this week. From visits to Nerja and the Alhambra, to cookery and Flamenco workshops and meeting the Mayor of Roja, making an appearance on the local radio station; it is a delight to see how positively our pupils represent our school community. Bien hecho por representar a la escuela tan bien. Estamos orgullosos de ti.

In the spirit of opportunity, we have another wonderful group of students flying out to New York today and we hope that they have an amazing trip.

Our Year 11s return after the half-term break to two weeks of PPEs. The timetable is hosted on the website for information. I wish them all every success with their revision for these mock exams.

As we come to the end of this half-term, I would put forward some advance notices: we have the Year 7 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 22nd February, we have our next Parent Forum meeting on Wednesday 28th February, and the Year 13 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 15th March.

We have placed some ‘digital footprints’ around school as part of ‘Safer Internet Day’, stressing some very important messages to our pupils. The wonderful opportunities presented by social media are without doubt to be celebrated and utilised but there is no doubt that some of the difficulties that arise when social media is misused or abused are a significant issue for society. We want out our pupils to be safe, caring and respectful digital citizens, modelling this in all of their online interactions. In this spirit, I conclude the Blog with the words of Malala Yousafzai: “What is interesting is the power and impact of social media. So we must try to use social media in a good way.”

I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable half-term week and look forward to seeing all pupils back on Monday 19th February.

Best wishes

Mr Kerridge.
