This week has been National Careers Week with a range of activities to promote careers taking place in progress time and lessons.
Next Wednesday all Year 9 students will be attending the West Lancashire College Interactive Careers Fair as part of our continued effort to provide excellent careers, information, advice and guidance to our young people. The students will visit during the normal school day and will be back in school before lunch. A letter has been sent to all Year 9 parents/carers outlining the details for the visit; this letter can also be found here.
World Book Day -
This week has also seen World Book Day with a variety of activities taking place on Thursday including 'Stop, drop and read!', a progress time quiz, planned activities within all KS3 English lessons, a short story silent starter and themed activities in the LRC. In addition, Year 7 pupils are involved in a 'Readathon' that will be continuing until the end of March.
Year 7 Parents’ Evening -
It was a pleasure to welcome Year 7 parents/carers to school this week to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s progress. We hope parents/carers found this evening useful and informative.
Parent Forum (Weds 13th March, 6.30pm-7.30pm) -
We extend a warm invitation to our next meeting to all parents and carers. The focus of discussion will be around the school’s approach to behaviour and ethos.
‘End Period Poverty’ Campaign -
As a school, we are proud to be supporting the ‘end period poverty’ campaign with students donating sanitary items. This has been supported by one of our local councillors, Nikki Hennessy, and as part of International Women’s Day Nikki has been in school to publicise this with the local press.
iPads for All -
Thank you for your continuing to support our 'iPads for All' scheme. This week, Year 9 students were excited to collect their updated devices. All students were reminded about the importance of keeping the iPad in its case with screen protector on at all times. Please do your best to support this so we can avoid sending any unnecessary bills in the event of accidents. We will be making some changes to our technical settings over the coming weeks to restrict the use of games and unnecessary apps in school. Further information will be shared soon.
Jaguar Land Rover -
Y12 and Y13 Computer Scientists and Business Studies students attended a talk and tour of Jaguar Landrover. The students experienced behind the scenes of Halewood’s stunning state-of-the-art production facility and witnessed what it takes to bring to life some of the most technologically advanced cars in the world. A highly engaging educational experience that the students can now apply to the requirements of their courses. The tour guides also highly commended the students on their engagement and conduct during the talk and tour.
Sporting success -
We would like to congratulate a number of the sports teams:
- The U13 cricket team who have qualified for the county indoor finals taking place in Bolton next week
- The Year 7B team who won the district B teams netball tournament
- The Years 7&8 netball teams who were both district runners up
- The Year 7 dodgeball team form 007 who came second in the district inclusion event
Well done to all students who took part.
