Headteacher's Blog

End of term/Start of new term -

We are looking forward to welcoming our new Headteacher, Mr Witter, at the start of next term. Mr Witter has visited the school on many occasions since his appointment and he is delighted to be joining us after Easter.

A reminder that school opens for the summer term on Tuesday 23rd April. Please use the break to ensure that pupils do have full school uniform for when they return including appropriate footwear if they have lost or grown out of their current uniform. As hopefully the weather will be improving after Easter we will be looking for all students to be outside the building at breaks and lunchtimes except for when they are in eating in the allocated dining areas.

Year 11 -

There will be a number of revision sessions running over the Easter holidays for Year 11 students. Information has been sent to students and parents and is on the school website. Our thanks go to staff for volunteering their time to run these sessions. Don't forget that our GCSE Exam Hub contains a wide range of support and revision materials.

Year 10 PPEs -

Year 10 exams start immediately after the Easter break. These exams are an important milestone in preparations for the GCSE exams and we encourage all pupils to prepare appropriately. The materials in our GCSE Exam Hub will be very useful in supporting revision and preparation. Please can we ask all parents and carers to ensure pupils are fully equipped for their exams.

Changes to iPad restrictions -

A reminder that there will be some changes to the way we manage iPads in school and at home to help pupils to use them productively and prevent excessive screen time. Thank you for your support with this.

Sixth Form -

A huge thank you to all who took part in the meningitis research. The nurses wanted to pass on their thanks and to say how impressed they were with the students’ enthusiastic attitudes. They said that we are the college with the highest percentage take up rate of this opportunity of any they have had in the North West! They will be back in March next year to complete the study and give the students their vaccinations.

In addition, a huge well done to Lewis and Joe who had their heads shaved this week for Macmillan – they are now a sight to behold and have raised nearly £600 in the process. There will be having an assembly after Easter with Macmillan when we will be able to present them with the cheque.

Sporting News -

Congratulations to the Under 19 boys’ football team who have this week won the Lancashire Schools Cup, beating Lancaster Grammar School 3-1 in the final with goals from Morgan, Louis and Sam. An excellent team performance – well done to all involved.

Congratulations also to our swimming team who won the District Gala. There were some fantastic individual performance with records broken by Josie in the Y10/11 25m backstroke, Chloe in the Y7 25m freestyle and by the Y10/11 girls in the freestyle relay. A great team effort from the 30+ strong team.

Finally, in sport our successful Under 15 boys’ basketball team played in the last 16 of the National Cup, unfortunately not progressing any further after losing 79-41 but an incredible achievement nonetheless.

Ski Trip -

Nearly 50 staff and students have departed today for a ski trip to Italy. We hope they have an fantastic time and return goggle-tanned and injury free.

Thank you -

We would like to parents for their support this term. We wish you a restful Easter break.
