Ormskirk School’s Performing Arts students have returned from London’s West End with a prestigious national award, after attending The National School Theatre Awards finals at the iconic Gillian Lynne Theatre last week.

The talented cast and crew received an incredible six nominations for their October 2024 production of The Addams Family, securing them a place among the top school productions in the country.

The red-carpet event brought together the very best young performers from schools nationwide, celebrating excellence and creativity in school theatre.

BAFTA and Olivier Award winner David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who) was in attendance as a patron of the awards and delivered an inspiring speech to the students.

Fellow patron Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Gangs of London, Nightsleeper) presented Ormskirk School’s Daisy Charles with the coveted ‘Best Actress in a Musical 2025’ award for her outstanding performance as Wednesday Addams.

Drama teacher Sarah Simm said:

“It’s hard to put into words just how proud we all are. Being nominated was already an incredible recognition of our students’ talent, dedication and teamwork – but to actually bring home a win in such a competitive field is phenomenal.

“This is a testament to how hard our students work and the creativity they bring to our productions every year.”

Award winner Daisy Charles added:

“I’m honestly still in shock. Playing Wednesday was a dream role for me, and to be recognised like this feels amazing.

“I couldn’t have done it without the support of our cast, crew and amazing teachers. It’s something I’ll never forget!”

The National School Theatre Awards are among the most prestigious celebrations of youth theatre in the UK, providing students with a platform to showcase their skills and gain national recognition for their hard work and passion.

For Ormskirk School to win against such strong competition highlights the remarkable standard of their performing arts department and the extraordinary commitment of its students and staff.
