Ormskirk School Wins Five Awards at NODA District 6 Ceremony

Ormskirk School is celebrating a fantastic achievement after winning five awards at the District 6 National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Awards.

The ceremony, held at the Brick Community Stadium in Wigan, recognised excellence in amateur theatre across the district. Staff and students from Ormskirk School enjoyed an outstanding evening, with the school receiving multiple awards and securing a place in the NODA regional finals in Manchester this May.

The school’s ambitious production of Singin’ in the Rain, which famously featured real rain on stage, received three awards. The show won Best Staging, while directors Sarah Simm and Paula Carter were recognised with the award for Best Director.

Student performer Charlie Geldart was also honoured with the prestigious Rep’s Choice Award for his standout performance as Don Lockwood, impressing judges as he tapped his way through the rain during the production’s iconic musical numbers. Speaking about the role, Charlie said: “It has been the biggest thrill of my life, I loved this show.”

Ormskirk School was also recognised for its powerful student-led drama No Man’s Land. The production was written, performed and directed by Sixth Form A-Level Drama and Theatre students and received four nominations. It went on to win Best Ensemble in a Youth Production and Best Youth Drama, highlighting the creativity, collaboration and dedication of the young theatre-makers.

Thanks to their success at the District 6 awards, Ormskirk School will now progress to the NODA regional finals in Manchester this May, where the school will represent the district and compete against leading productions from across the region.

The NODA Awards celebrate excellence in amateur theatre across the UK, recognising the dedication and talent of performers, directors and volunteers who bring theatre to life in their communities.
